About the report YouGov Small Business Omnibus Clifton Asset Management and The Forum of Private Business (The Forum) commissioned YouGov to survey SME decision makers via its Business Omnibus between 27th February and 7th March 2017. The sample size was 1,035 decision makers, of which 498 were business owners. The survey was carried out online and the figures were weighted to be representative of British business size. Forum of Private Business Member Research A more in-depth survey was undertaken online with around 200 SME business owners who are members of The Forum. Members were surveyed during February 2017. Two thirds of members/business owners (64 per cent) were aged over 50, and almost three quarters (70 per cent) were running businesses with an annual turnover less than £1million. This report is based on the views of over 1,200 SME decision makers from two sources of quantitative research: Select interviews A number of select interviews were also undertaken with business owners over 50, and experts in business funding and development.
